Lokar's Magic Staff is a kind of graphical guessing game written in Extended BASIC that the player needs to figure out the right combinations of 2 carvings on the staff to unlock the next batch (there are 3 total). Different combinations can strengthen or weaken the player, or outright end the game. The ad for the game mentions "five crystal statues, the magic staff, and a castle, filled with wild animals. It appears that the combinations that work are fixed and not random. There are symbols on the staff that show the number of times you can activate them before they fade away and you can't use them anymore. I should mention that I have seen at least one combination that adds to the count of at least one symbol. Once you have activated all 3 sections of the staff, you have to figure out which combination will let you escape the castle.
The gameplay itself is almost identical to another game by the same company called The Alchemist's Laboratory, although with a different theme and graphics, and not a lot of gameplay after you solve it since the patterns seem to be fixed. The graphics in this game are not as impressive as in Alchemist's Laboratory, either. I should mention that both games first appeared in the same ad in the November 1982 issue of 80 Micro magazine, although the copyright screen shown above shows 1983 (either it was late, or perhaps a bug fix was done shortly after it's original release).
