The spelling of her first name changed from Klara to Clara after coming to Canada. Her last name was originally Lenger, and was changed after coming to Canada as well, for reasons unknown.
Klara was brought to Royal University Hospital in 1989, where she had to have 1/2 of one leg amputated. She pretty well gave up living after that (saying things like “They took my leg. What am I going to do with no leg”), and died within days from heart failure. Curiously, when an autopsy was done, they discovered older scar tissue on her heart, which indicated that she had had a heart attack years or even decades previous, that no one knew about.

“Clara Young buried Aug. 18 at Wadena
The passing of Clara Young, 92 of Wadena occured on Monday, Aug. 14 at the University Hospital, Saskatoon, following a short illness.
Clara Laenger was born on April 27, 1897, in Lodz, Poland to Robert and Marianna Laenger. She grew up and was confirmed in Poland and in 1918 she married Oswald Young. To this union two children, Ida and Arnold, were born.
In 1927 the family immigrated to Canada. Clara and Oswald worked out for six years. In 1933 they bought a farm south of Lintlaw where they resided and worked until their retirement in 1962. They then moved to Wadena where Clara lived out the remainder of her life.
Mrs. Young was predeceased by her two brothers, one sister, her husband Oswald and her daughter Ida. She is survived by her son Arnold and his wife Martha. She also has seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Young was actively involved in the life of her church and in the ELW for many years. She will be fondly remembered for her love of singing and music, as well as by the embroidery, crocheting and fancy work she did with such compassion.
She will be missed by her family, and by her many friends and acquaintances in the Weneeda Park Lodge and in the surrounding community of Wadena.
Funeral services were held in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Aug. 18 with Pastor Dawn Nelson officiating. Organists was Marilyn Rediger and Wanda Ziola was in care of the memorial book.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Lesli Young, Ron Young and Bruce Selch and great-grandsons, Kevin Boyle, Curtis Boyle and Eugene Shinkewski.
Internment took place in the Wadena Cemetery with Narfason’s Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. Lunch was served in the church auditorium following internment.”
