He used to live in FtWorth (or Dallas), but I think he moved to NYC. I'll see if I have his address. You can also perhaps send him email using the ID found on his uploaded file... if he's still on CIS, that may get to him. Also, you can GO DIRECTORY and look him up that way. Mohr 76120,1642 To: 72467,1111 Mike, I just recieved a copy of Ultimuse-III Ver 4.7.5A. Almost everything works fine, but I can not seem to read any files or directories. When I try I get a message about 'can not malloc enuf' and 'DIRREAD'. I checked RAM and I have 160K or more. I also checked system RAM and smap gives 34 pages. I noticed that when I ran pmap that 'FRAN' has a full 64k map. Could this be the problem? The CRC's of the modules I have are as follows: Umuse3 4B30A8 FRAN D11CBE Um3disk 7F52C4 Um3play D207CA Um3Show D0C9CF Um3Lay 89E612 Um3Plco 8B489C Um3Trango ED9F85 I hope you can help me out. I have been using the shareware version and I was looking forward to the new menu version. Mohr 76120,1642 (X) Larry, perhaps you've noticed that I've been trying to find the answer to the malloc problem. It hit me a year or so ago and Mike gave me a fix. Unfortunately, in a misguided fit of cleaning up, I recently lost the fix and now I have the same problem again. It has to do with SHELL+. If you reboot with the original SHELL instead of SHELL+ as SHELL, I believe you will be able to run UmUse without problems. I have called Mike but so far no answer; perhaps he's out of town. More later. Ches. There is 1 Reply. #: 14797 S4/MIDI and Music 05-Apr-92 03:39:58 Sb: #14789-#Umuse3 Help Fm: Larry J. Mohr 76120,1642 To: Ches Looney 73016,1336 (X) l* Ches, Thanks for trying. I read the message thread a couple of days ago and decided to try some of the suggestions myself(I was too impatient to wait). Nothing seemed to work until I tried booting with the original Tandy Shell. Voila! Umuse was running perfect. Well I did not want to have to put up with the limitations of the old shell and I was unsure what I wanted to do until I realized that the only version of shell causing the problem was the one that Umuse3 ran from. I patched an original Tandy shell to the name Tshel and also patched the prompt to VDG and put it in my CMDS directory. Then I re-booted with my normal shell+ and begore Then I re-booted with my mormal shell+ and used the following sequence to run Ultimuse. tshell i=/vdg& then I go over to the VDG window and umuse3 and everything appears to work fine. I have been using this method for 2-3 days without problem. If you do find out a more elegant solution I would be happy to hear it, however, I am doing just fine now. P.S. Do you have version 4.7.5a -I thing the additions to it are fabulous. About the only thing I wished for that he has not already added is the coming APPEND function and a stand alone song player. Thanks again for the clues. Larry Mohr There is 1 Reply. #: 14798 S4/MIDI and Music 05-Apr-92 07:31:13 Sb: #14797-Umuse3 Help Fm: Ches Looney 73016,1336 To: Larry J. I got my copy from Coco-Pro. It is hard to believe how much has been added to the shareware version to become 4.7.5a. I tried out the part block copy yesterday and I can see it saving me HOURS of time. The crescendo/diminuendo give the music a much more REAL feel. I hope to upload some tunes when I get a few complete the way I want. Thanks for the help. Referring back to your last message and your interest in "a more elegant solution"; I think your approach is probably better than the one I was using with a patched Shell+. The problem with a non-standard approach is exemplified by my loss of the patch info and thus the loss of a useable method. What I'm doing now works with either MultiVue or without by using the following script under the title of MUSE in the CMDS directory: xmode /w7 type=1;tshell umuse3<>>>/w7& . tshell is the original tandy shell patched to have the name tshel but saved as tshell. Typing MUSE starts UMusE in a VDC window, but I still have to to go to that window and use UMusE. I'm trying to transfer all my old Umuse sequences over to Cakewalk on my MSDOG box via MIDI. Ubox isn't sending out MIDI sync codes (or at least isn't sending song-start or whatever it is). It did work once or twice a long time ago when I first got UBox, but it didn't work consistently. One boot-up it would work, then the next it wouldn't. Without MIDI sync, I get a sequence in Cakewalk that I can't do anything with - timing is too far out of whack to edit - quantizing just screws it up worse. Any ideas why UBox doesn't work for me? I've got a lot of work tied up in some of those sequences - need to get them transferred! Thanks in advance... Glen Hathaway - COMPER - 71446,166
